Zalando SE announced that its supervisory board has nominated Peter Sarlin, a European pioneer in machine learning and artificial intelligence, for election as a supervisory board member at the annual general meeting on May 12, 2026. Sarlin, founder of Silo AI—Europe's largest private AI lab acquired by AMD in 2024—brings deep AI expertise to Zalando as the company accelerates its use of AI to enhance growth and efficiency.
Sarlin will succeed Susanne Schroter-Crossan, who is stepping down from the board effective at the end of the AGM. The supervisory board expressed gratitude for Schroter-Crossan's contributions to the company's strategic development.
Zalando, founded in 2008, has long integrated data, machine learning, and AI into its operations. The company now leverages its 17-year-built infrastructure—including Europe's richest fashion-specific data set and leading logistics network—to supercharge AI applications. This includes agentic commerce, where AI acts as a lifestyle agent understanding customer context and proactively serving needs across fashion and lifestyle.
Zalando is evolving its Zalando Assistant into a personal lifestyle companion and already partners with Sarlin's Qutwo, an ambitious AI lab. Kelly Bennett, chairperson of the supervisory board, stated, "Peter will play a crucial role in governing and scaling our AI innovations further as we unlock tremendous value for our customers, our partners, and our business."
