YDC 2026 Winners Announced at CENTRESTAGE Grand Finale

The Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest 2026 (YDC) concluded with a spectacular grand finale at CENTRESTAGE, Asia's premier fashion event, which ran from 1 to 5 September. Ten emerging local designers showcased their collections, drawing from personal experiences and inner emotions to tell unique stories through innovative tailoring and materials. The event, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, celebrated the theme "YOU." and featured a runway show attended by celebrities and industry figures.

After careful deliberation, the judging panel selected the winners. Tsui Ao Lung emerged as Champion with his collection "The Tide," inspired by a classic Cantopop hit. His work depicted the emotional ebbs and flows of a woman's life through four stages, using handcrafted artisanal materials. Tsui expressed that the award affirmed his future direction. Cheang King Tung, Kenneth received both the Excellence Award and the Best Art Direction Award for "NOSTALGIA," a collection inspired by the 1983 film Nostalghia and his memories of Hong Kong. His designs translated the city's humid air, harbours, and industrial landscapes into clothing, using hand-dyeing and experimental treatments. The "My Favourite Collection" Award, decided by public vote, went to Lam Chun Ni, Jenny for "The Old Si-Fut and New Chai," which explored Hong Kong's workplace culture and the dynamic between veteran and rookie workers.

The judging panel, chaired by Katherine Fang, included international figures such as Rok Hwang, founder of ROKH, and Olya Kuryshchuk of 1 Granary. Hwang praised the show for its energetic and inspiring display of Hong Kong culture and creativity. The contestants received mentorship from Alex Po and Derek Cheng of PONDER.ER throughout the competition.

In celebration of MINI Hong Kong's tenth year as lead sponsor, nine YDC alumni created exclusive car-wrap designs for the All Electric MINI Cooper and Aceman, reflecting the theme "YOU." and MINI's "Express Yourself" philosophy. The tenth design was by the MINI-sponsored award winner. A special stage programme featured local actors and MINI owners sharing their stories.

The YDC is part of the third Hong Kong Fashion Fest, which runs from 1 to 14 September under the theme "Rhythm of the Heart." The event aims to position Hong Kong as a fashion design hub and a centre for cultural exchange.
