Wrap Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WRAP) has launched WrapShield, an autonomous defense and public safety platform designed to unify threat detection, AI-assisted decision support, and response technologies into a single operating architecture. The company stated that the platform aims to help government agencies integrate existing and future sensors, artificial intelligence capabilities, and response technologies for applications including defense, public safety, homeland security, critical infrastructure, and border security, with an initial focus on counter-unmanned aircraft systems.
In conjunction with the platform launch, Wrap Technologies announced a strategic investment in Israel-based Frenel Imaging Ltd. and secured an exclusive U.S. and NATO license for Frenel’s proprietary TPiCore(R) thermal-polarimetric imaging technology. This technology will serve as the initial sensing layer for WrapShield. The company indicated that Frenel is expected to be the first of multiple planned investments supporting the platform, which is designed to expand across a range of autonomous security and surveillance markets.
The announcement marks a significant expansion for Wrap Technologies, known for its non-lethal BolaWrap(R) 150 device and other public safety tools. The WrapShield platform represents a move into broader autonomous security solutions, leveraging AI and advanced sensors to address emerging threats. The company’s existing portfolio includes the Wrap Reality(R) immersive training platform, WrapVision(TM) body-worn camera system, and next-generation counter-UAS solutions such as PAN-DA and the 1KC Kinetic Anti-Drone Cassette.
According to the press release, WrapShield is intended to provide a unified operating architecture that can connect various detection and response technologies. The platform’s initial focus on counter-unmanned aircraft systems highlights the growing need for integrated defenses against drone threats in both military and civilian contexts. The exclusive license for Frenel’s thermal-polarimetric imaging technology is expected to enhance the platform’s sensing capabilities, offering advanced detection in diverse environments.
Wrap Technologies emphasized that the platform is designed to be adaptable, with plans for additional investments to expand its capabilities. The company’s strategic investment in Frenel Imaging aligns with its goal of integrating cutting-edge technologies to address complex security challenges. As the platform evolves, it could potentially serve a wide range of autonomous security and surveillance markets, offering government agencies a comprehensive solution for threat detection and response.
