Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Secures $1M Milestone Payment from Bayer for Iodine Feasibility Study

Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (TSX.V: VM) (OTC Pink: VYYRF) has achieved the first milestone under its non-dilutive Collaboration and Funding Agreement with Bayer AG, securing a USD $1 million payment. This payment, combined with the initial funds, brings total received funds to USD $1.35 million out of the USD $2.35 million committed by Bayer. The milestone was triggered by the approval of Voyageur's complete feasibility work plan and timetable, along with successful laboratory production of 99.8% purity iodine using its proprietary Mueller extraction process.

The company's Houston R&D team proved the extraction process using produced water from the Anadarko Basin, providing the technical confirmation needed for Bayer to advance the program. The transportable pilot plant is nearing completion and is scheduled for field operation this fall. The funding will allow Fluor Corporation to complete the FEL-3 feasibility study once pilot plant data is available. The remaining $1 million milestone payment is scheduled upon completion of that study.

Brent Willis, President and CEO of Voyageur, emphasized the importance of this milestone: "It confirms that the feasibility work is advancing as planned and triggers the first major non-dilutive payment under the collaboration. This capital is expected to further accelerate our iodine supply strategy and move us closer to validating a reliable North American source of high-purity iodine for use in contrast media drugs."

This development is significant because it advances the potential for a domestic, high-purity iodine supply, addressing supply chain vulnerabilities and reducing reliance on imports. The global contrast media market is estimated at approximately USD $7.06 billion, underscoring the strategic importance of securing raw materials. Voyageur's vertically integrated strategy aims to improve supply-chain security and lower operating costs for medical imaging contrast agents.

Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) is providing engineering support, including thermodynamic modeling and project planning. Subsequent engineering phases will progress through FEL-2 (Concept Design) and FEL-3 (Basic Design) to define a demonstration-scale configuration. The FEL-2 phase is expected to take four to five months, followed by FEL-3 of approximately seven to nine months.

The project proposes staged production rollout, beginning with 200 tonnes per year and potentially expanding to 1,000 tonnes per year. A central manufacturing facility would process iodine concentrate to produce USP pharmaceutical grade iodine for contrast drugs. Subject to successful feasibility, Bayer and Voyageur may negotiate a long-term offtake supply agreement.

Mr. Willis added: "The Bayer collaboration, combined with technical support from Fluor, continues to strengthen the foundation for scalable domestic iodine production." Voyageur is focused on building multiple revenue streams through staged commercialization, including near-term barium contrast sales, iodine sales under the Bayer collaboration, and longer-term contrast drug sales.

This milestone marks a critical step in Voyageur's plan to become a vertically integrated player in the radiology contrast media market, embodying its motto "From Earth to Bottle" by controlling raw material sourcing to final production.
