The World Council on City Data (WCCD) has officially awarded Vinhomes Green Paradise - Can Gio the Interim Custom ISO 37122 Smart City Certification, recognizing the project's substantial progress in aligning its design, planning, and development strategy with international smart city standards. This milestone positions the development as a pioneer in Vietnam and sets a new global precedent for greenfield urban projects, as it advances toward full certification upon operational commencement.
The certification follows a comprehensive assessment based on a customized indicators framework developed by WCCD specifically for greenfield developments, incorporating the core principles of ISO 37122. This international standard measures and evaluates smart city performance, providing a robust baseline for monitoring progress in smart urban governance, infrastructure, technology adoption, and sustainability. Dr. Patricia McCarney, President & CEO of WCCD, highlighted that the certification recognizes Vinhomes' long-term vision and commitment to a smart, sustainable urban model, and provides a powerful data foundation for year-over-year monitoring, ensuring full certification once operations begin.
Mr. Chulse Oh, Head of AX Group at Korea Management Association Consultants (KMAC), emphasized that the certification marks an important milestone in realizing a world-class smart city in Vietnam. KMAC will continue supporting the project in developing smart city solutions and refining criteria for a comprehensive model during the operational phase. The certification is the first major milestone in a roadmap agreed upon in March 2026, when Vinhomes Green Paradise launched its Smart City Certification Project in partnership with WCCD, Standardized Urban Metrics (SUM), and KMAC.
Vinhomes Green Paradise benefits from a unique location overlooking the Can Gio Sea and adjacent to the UNESCO-recognized Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve. The 2,870-hectare development features a low construction density of 16%, and Vinhomes is pioneering an enhanced ESG++ model with five pillars: Environment, Social, Governance, Regeneration, and Climate Adaptation. Upon full operation, the project aims to utilize 100% clean electricity from renewable sources and achieve 100% net-zero emission transportation, while placing strong emphasis on biodiversity conservation and ecosystem regeneration aligned with Ho Chi Minh City's climate adaptation strategy.
To support these efforts, a Forest Regeneration and Climate Adaptation Fund will be established to finance research, restoration, and resilience initiatives, with a key focus on regenerating the Can Gio mangrove ecosystem. The project has also become the first Official Participant in the '7 Wonders of the Future Cities' campaign initiated by New7Wonders, further reinforcing its pioneering vision.
This certification not only underscores Vinhomes Green Paradise's leadership in sustainable urban development but also provides a replicable model for other greenfield projects worldwide. By adhering to ISO 37122 standards, the development ensures that its smart city initiatives are data-driven, verifiable, and aligned with global best practices.
