University Orthopaedic Associates Surgeons Named Castle Connolly Top Doctors

University Orthopaedic Associates (UOA) announced that six of its surgeons have been named 2026 Castle Connolly Top Doctors. The recognized physicians include Hesham Abdelfattah, MD; Christopher Doumas, MD; David A. Harwood, MD; Timothy P. Leddy, MD; James T. Monica, MD; and Kenneth G. Swan, Jr., MD. Only 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians receive this distinction each year, as selected by a peer-nominated, physician-led research team.

The surgeons are board-certified and fellowship-trained specialists who provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care at UOA, a practice with five decades of service in New Jersey. As part of OrthoNJ, the state's largest orthopaedic group, they focus on clinical excellence, medical education, and community wellness. Their expertise covers traumatic injuries, degenerative joint diseases, sports injuries, spinal disorders, fractures, hand and upper extremity conditions, and complex deformities.

UOA offers advanced therapeutic interventions, including joint replacements for the ankle, hip, knee, and shoulder; robotic-assisted knee replacement; spine surgeries and disc replacements; hand, wrist, and upper extremity reconstructions; minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures; and complex fracture fixation. The practice also provides integrated services such as advanced diagnostics, physical therapy, hand rehabilitation, and sports performance training. For outpatient procedures, UOA partners with the University Center for Ambulatory Surgery (UCAS) in Somerset, which is listed on the U.S. News & World Report "Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers" and features opioid-sparing pain management protocols.

The physicians completed their medical education and fellowship training at leading institutions nationwide. Their academic backgrounds include joint reconstruction, sports medicine, trauma, hand and upper extremity surgery, foot and ankle surgery, spinal surgery, physiatry, and non-operative care. They hold academic appointments at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and serve as orthopaedic consultants for Princeton University, Rutgers University, Rider University, the Somerset Patriots, and multiple local high schools.

Castle Connolly Top Doctors are nominated by peers and selected based on criteria including medical education, training, hospital appointments, and disciplinary history. Doctors cannot pay to be selected. The full list is published at castleconnolly.com and in partner publications.
