Trilogy Metals Provides Update on Proposed U.S. Department of War Investment

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) has provided an update on its proposed strategic equity investment of approximately US$35.6 million from the U.S. Department of War (DOW), aimed at supporting exploration and development of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects in northwestern Alaska. The company confirmed that discussions with the DOW are ongoing and that the letter of intent signed in October 2025 remains in effect as both parties continue to advance negotiations.

The proposed investment is a significant development for Trilogy Metals and the broader U.S. critical minerals sector. It signals growing government interest in securing domestic sources of copper and other essential minerals, which are vital for national defense, infrastructure, and the transition to clean energy. The Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects, located in the Ambler Mining District, are among the most prospective copper-dominant districts in the world, hosting polymetallic volcanic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt.

This investment would provide crucial funding to advance exploration and development activities at a time when the U.S. is increasingly reliant on imported minerals. According to the company, the funding is intended to support continued work at the projects, which are held through Ambler Metals LLC, a joint venture with South32. Trilogy Metals holds a 50 percent interest in Ambler Metals, which has a 100 percent interest in the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects.

The Ambler Mining District is located within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares, and exploration efforts have focused on the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit. Ambler Metals has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, an Alaska Native Corporation, to ensure exploration and potential development are conducted in cooperation with local communities, respecting subsistence livelihoods.

The potential investment from the U.S. Department of War underscores the strategic importance of these projects. As the U.S. seeks to reduce its dependence on foreign sources of critical minerals, domestic projects like the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects could play a key role in ensuring a reliable supply chain. The U.S. Department of War's interest in investing directly in a mining project highlights the intersection of national security and resource development, a trend that could become more common as geopolitical tensions affect global mineral markets.

For Trilogy Metals, this investment would not only provide financial support but also validate the strategic value of its assets. The company has long emphasized the potential of the Ambler Mining District to become a premier North American copper producer. With the backing of the U.S. government, the project could accelerate, bringing economic benefits to the region and contributing to the nation's mineral independence.

The news comes as copper prices remain volatile, but demand for the metal is expected to rise significantly due to electrification and renewable energy initiatives. The Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects are well-positioned to meet some of this demand, given their high-grade deposits and location in a politically stable jurisdiction.

Investors and stakeholders will be watching closely as discussions between Trilogy Metals and the U.S. Department of War progress. The outcome of these negotiations could have significant implications not only for the company but also for the domestic mining industry and U.S. national security. As the world moves toward a more electrified future, secure access to critical minerals like copper becomes increasingly important, and this proposed investment is a step in that direction.
