Trilogy Metals' Arctic Project Enters Federal Environmental Review, Setting Stage for Permitting Milestone

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has published a Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the company's Arctic Project in Alaska's Ambler Mining District. This action formally initiates environmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and launches the public scoping phase, a key milestone for the high-grade copper-zinc-lead-gold-silver project. The project is being advanced by Ambler Metals LLC, a 50/50 joint venture between Trilogy and South32 Limited (ASX: S32; LSE: S32; JSE: S32; ADR: SOUHY).

The NOI is the first significant federal step under the coordinated federal and state permitting schedule published in July 2026. The approximately 29-month review timetable targets publication of a draft EIS in October 2027 and a Record of Decision in September 2028, with remaining federal and state authorizations expected to be completed by November 2028. This schedule underscores the project's advancement through the regulatory process, providing investors with a clear timeline for potential construction and operation.

The Arctic Project's importance lies in its resource potential and strategic location. The Ambler Mining District is recognized as one of the world's richest and most prospective copper-dominant districts, hosting polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization. Exploration has focused on the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit, both within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares.

Trilogy holds a 50 percent interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns 100 percent of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP) in northwestern Alaska. South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company, exercised its option to form the joint venture in December 2019. Ambler Metals also has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, establishing a framework for exploration and development in cooperation with local communities. Trilogy's vision is to develop the Ambler Mining District into a premier North American copper producer while protecting and respecting subsistence livelihoods.

The start of federal environmental review signals that the Arctic Project is moving closer to becoming a producing mine, which could enhance domestic supplies of critical minerals and create economic opportunities in Alaska. For stakeholders, the NOI and public scoping phase offer an opportunity to engage in the permitting process.
