Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) has achieved a significant milestone in its collaborative multiple sclerosis imaging study with Massachusetts General Hospital, announcing that patient enrollment has reached the halfway mark. The study is evaluating a novel PET imaging technique using the [¹⁸F]3F4AP tracer to directly assess demyelination, a key pathological feature of MS. Preliminary imaging data have shown encouraging signals in acute MS lesions and potential sensitivity to gray matter lesions, which could provide a more comprehensive understanding of disease activity and progression.
This imaging approach is critical because current methods often fail to detect gray matter lesions, which are increasingly recognized as important contributors to disability in MS. By enabling direct visualization of demyelination, the technique may enhance the development of MS therapies, including Quantum’s investigational candidate Lucid-MS. The company submitted an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for a Phase 2 trial of Lucid-MS to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in March 2026. Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity that has shown potential to prevent and reverse myelin degradation in preclinical models, addressing the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis.
The study’s progress underscores Quantum’s commitment to advancing diagnostic and therapeutic options for neurodegenerative diseases. According to the company, the imaging data could also help identify patients who may benefit most from Lucid-MS, potentially accelerating its clinical development. The collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital, a leading research institution, adds credibility and expertise to the effort.
Quantum BioPharma is dedicated to building a portfolio of innovative assets for challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, as well as alcohol misuse disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., Quantum focuses on the research and development of Lucid-MS. Additionally, the company has developed UNBUZZD, a product for alcohol misuse, and retains a 19.84% ownership stake in Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., along with royalty payments from sales.
