Quantum BioPharma Ltd. Durkacz emphasized that Lucid-MS is being developed to address mobility loss associated with multiple sclerosis by targeting nerve damage, an area he believes remains unmet by currently available treatments.
According to the company, Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity that has shown the ability to prevent and reverse myelin degradation in preclinical models. Myelin degradation is the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis. The upcoming Phase 2 clinical trial for Lucid-MS will be the first study to evaluate the drug candidate in multiple sclerosis patients, following Phase 1 testing in healthy volunteers.
Durkacz also highlighted unbuzzd, a commercial product designed to accelerate blood alcohol metabolism, currently available in the U.S. market. Quantum BioPharma retains ownership of 19.84% of Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., the entity that markets the OTC version, and receives royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd until payments total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. The company retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products for pharmaceutical and medical uses.
