Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) was featured on the latest episode of The BioMedWire Podcast, where co-founder and executive co-chair Anthony Durkacz discussed the company’s lead drug candidate, Lucid-MS, and its commercial alcohol metabolism product, unbuzzd. Durkacz highlighted that Lucid-MS is being developed to address mobility loss associated with multiple sclerosis by targeting nerve damage, an area he believes remains unmet by currently available treatments.
According to the company, Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity shown to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis, in preclinical models. Quantum BioPharma is preparing for its upcoming Phase 2 clinical trial for Lucid-MS, which will be the first study to evaluate the drug candidate in multiple sclerosis patients following Phase 1 testing in healthy volunteers.
Durkacz also discussed unbuzzd, a product designed to accelerate blood alcohol metabolism and currently available in the U.S. market. Quantum BioPharma invented unbuzzd and spun out its OTC version to Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., led by industry veterans. Quantum retains ownership of 19.84% of Unbuzzd and receives royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd until payments total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. The company retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products for pharmaceutical and medical uses.
