LION Smart, a company of the LION E-Mobility Group, has been awarded the TOP 100 Seal 2026, placing it among Germany's most innovative mid-sized businesses. The seal, which the company has been entitled to carry since February 1, recognizes outstanding innovative strength and success. The award ceremony will take place on June 26 at the German SME Summit in Heidelberg, where former Federal President Christian Wulff will congratulate the winners.
The TOP 100 competition, organized by compamedia, uses a scientific selection process led by innovation researcher Professor Nikolaus Franke. Companies are assessed across five categories: innovation-oriented top management, innovation climate, innovation processes and organisation, external orientation/open innovation, and innovation success. These categories are broken down into more than 100 assessment criteria. Franke commented, "At TOP 100, we analyse thoroughly and comprehensively how innovation-driven the applicants are. Those that are exceptionally well positioned receive confirmation in the form of the TOP 100 Seal."
LION Smart operates in the field of intelligent energy storage and battery solutions, known for modular, scalable storage systems for industrial, grid, and mobility applications. The company's innovation-driven approach spans from early concept phase and system development through to market launch. The TOP 100 Seal is awarded in three size categories: up to 50 employees, 51 to 200 employees, and more than 200 employees. In its 33rd round, 356 mid-sized companies applied, with 282 successful. A maximum of 100 companies can be recognized per category. The top innovators will gather on June 26 at the Heidelberg Congress Center for the German SME Summit.
Since 1993, compamedia has awarded the TOP 100 Seal. Since 2002, scientific direction has been under Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke, founder and chairman of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
