The inaugural Chinatown Creator Awards, held on August 27 at COYA Living, attracted an over-capacity crowd, underscoring the growing influence of digital creators on Las Vegas's Chinatown corridor. The private reception, co-hosted by COYA Living and ChinatownVegas.com, honored 20 photographers, videographers, food personalities, and community storytellers for their contributions to the neighborhood's culture and commerce.
Emceed by writer and film director Jason Harris, the event recognized honorees in five groups, mirroring their introduction in the 'This Week in Chinatown' series. Among those present were @lasvegasfill, @brandonfromvegas, @wheretogovegas, @therubyontherocks, and @baileyzeats, each receiving custom plaques for their impact.
Joe Muscaglione, founder of ChinatownVegas.com and Chinatown Amplify, emphasized the creators' role beyond mere social media posts. 'The creators honored through these awards have done far more than post about restaurants,' he said. Their work has helped the corridor attract approximately 23.9 million visits annually, a figure that rivals the tourism of some countries.
The event also showcased the culinary talent of the corridor, with chefs and restaurants presenting exclusive dishes. Sparrow + Wolf and Lamaii, both freshly recommended by the MICHELIN Guide, offered wood-fired Isaan sausage and garlicky crispy prawn, respectively. Chef Steve Kestler of Aroma Latin American Cocina created a citrus-forward Chinatown Ceviche, while Chef Jimmy Li of Shanghai Taste contributed an abalone and sea cucumber meatball. Double Zero Pie & Pub debuted its New York-style pizza, and China Mama served tangy orange chicken.
Other participating eateries included Mama's House × Durango Social Club, O.Onigiri, Noodlehead, Mochi!, Moignet Café, and Milk Bread. The Alchemist Bar & Restaurant provided cocktails, and Paul Ellis poured wine and champagne.
Among the notable guests were rock photographer David Plastik, whose work has appeared in Rolling Stone, and music publicist Mitch Schneider, who represented legends like David Bowie and Tom Petty. Schneider praised the event on Facebook as a 'meaningful event' honoring creators 'who've helped put Las Vegas Chinatown on the map.'
The reception's success, marked by broad participation from the neighborhood's culinary and business communities, establishes a strong foundation for future awards.
