Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), a member of the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global (GoGlobal Task Force), will lead a seven-day delegation to Canada starting September 20, 2026. The mission aims to support Mainland enterprises in expanding their global footprint by connecting them with Canadian counterparts in strategic sectors such as sustainability and life and health sciences.
The delegation, led by Ms Loretta Lee, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, will visit Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. It comprises Chinese Mainland companies specializing in green technology and life and health sciences. The visit is designed to help these enterprises understand local ecosystems and align their international growth strategies, while also attracting Canadian businesses to invest in Hong Kong, thereby driving new growth impetus for both regions.
Ms Lee emphasized the significance of the mission: "Canada is globally recognised for its exceptional research talent, clean technology leadership, and established life sciences ecosystem. As more Mainland green technology and life and health sciences enterprises pursue international growth through Hong Kong, they bring not only capital and access to one of the world's largest markets, but also serve as ideal partners for Canadian companies seeking to explore Asia and beyond. We are keen to build fresh synergies with Canadian businesses to strengthen innovation, collaboration, and investment flows."
During the visit, the delegation will engage with local institutions, chambers of commerce, and industry associations. They will hold targeted discussions with leading Canadian green tech and healthcare enterprises, visit universities and research parks, and participate in sector-specific roundtables and business networking sessions. These activities are intended to facilitate knowledge exchange and identify concrete opportunities for collaboration.
The mission underscores Hong Kong's unique position as a super-connector between Mainland China and the world. By leveraging its robust financial infrastructure, international trade agreements, and business-friendly environment, Hong Kong offers a gateway for Mainland enterprises to access global markets and for foreign companies to tap into Asia's dynamic economy. This outbound mission is part of a broader strategy under the supervision of the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development to promote Hong Kong as a two-way investment hub.
For Canadian businesses, the delegation presents an opportunity to partner with innovative Mainland firms and gain insights into Asian markets. The focus on sustainability and life sciences aligns with global trends and Canada's strengths in these areas, potentially leading to joint ventures, technology transfers, and increased investment flows. Such collaborations can drive economic growth, create jobs, and accelerate the development of solutions to global challenges like climate change and healthcare.
The visit also highlights the role of InvestHK in facilitating foreign direct investment and supporting companies at every stage of their expansion. By organizing targeted missions, InvestHK helps businesses navigate complex international landscapes and build lasting partnerships. As global economic dynamics evolve, Hong Kong's ability to connect Mainland China with key markets like Canada remains crucial for fostering innovation and sustainable development.
