Greenland Mines Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRML) has provided an update on key milestones, including the closing of its acquisition of the Sarfartoq Neodymium-Praseodymium (Nd-Pr) rare earths project and ongoing development at the Skaergaard palladium-gold-platinum project. These advancements position the company to capitalize on growing demand for critical minerals essential to clean energy and advanced technologies.
The Sept. 1 closing of the Sarfartoq acquisition marks a significant step in expanding Greenland Mines’ rare earth portfolio. An independent Initial Assessment for the project reported a high-case pre-tax net present value (NPV) of approximately $2.05 billion with an internal rate of return (IRR) of 118.6%, including Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resources. The project’s updated resource estimate comprises 6.9 million tonnes of Indicated resources at 1.60% total rare earth oxides (TREO) and 5.3 million tonnes of Inferred resources at 0.96% TREO. Notably, Neo Performance Materials, a strategic shareholder, holds offtake rights for up to 60% of future Sarfartoq production, providing a clear pathway to market.
At the Skaergaard project in southeast Greenland, the company’s July 2026 S-K 1300 Technical Report Summary demonstrated a 36% increase in Indicated palladium-equivalent (PdEq) grade and a 31% increase in contained Indicated PdEq ounces compared to the 2022 estimate. This upgrade underscores the project’s potential as a significant source of palladium, gold, and platinum. A 2026 field program is underway, encompassing drilling, bulk sampling, geotechnical work, environmental baseline studies, and surveys. Bulk material is slated for metallurgical and processing flowsheet testing at GTK Mintec in Finland, a critical step toward optimizing extraction methods.
Looking ahead, Greenland Mines has outlined remaining 2026 milestones: advancing Sarfartoq toward targeted infill drilling and a Pre-Feasibility Study, moving Skaergaard toward an Initial Assessment evaluating a mining scenario, and further developing its broader North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor strategy. This corridor aims to link Greenland’s mineral resources with allied downstream jurisdictions and industrial infrastructure, enhancing supply chain security for critical minerals.
These developments come at a time when global demand for rare earth elements and platinum group metals is rising, driven by the transition to electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and advanced electronics. Nd-Pr magnets are vital for EV motors and wind turbines, while palladium and platinum are used in catalytic converters and hydrogen fuel cells. Greenland Mines’ focus on these minerals aligns with Western efforts to diversify supply chains away from dominant producers.
