Greenland Mines (NASDAQ: GRML) has issued a shareholder letter detailing significant advancements in its mining operations, particularly the closing of its acquisition of the Sarfartoq Neodymium-Praseodymium (Nd-Pr) rare earths project and continued development at the Skaergaard palladium-gold-platinum project. The updates underscore the company's strategic pivot toward becoming a key supplier of critical minerals in the North Atlantic region.
The company announced that it completed the acquisition of the Sarfartoq project on September 1, a move that aligns with its broader vision of establishing a North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor. According to an independent Initial Assessment, Sarfartoq boasts a high-case pre-tax net present value (NPV) of approximately $2.05 billion with an internal rate of return (IRR) of 118.6%, based on Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resources. The project also holds an updated resource estimate of 6.9 million tonnes at 1.60% Total Rare Earth Oxides (TREO) in the Indicated category and 5.3 million tonnes at 0.96% TREO in the Inferred category. These figures highlight the project's potential to supply neodymium and praseodymium, critical components for permanent magnets used in electric vehicles and wind turbines.
Strategic investor Neo Performance Materials, which holds offtake rights for up to 60% of future Sarfartoq production, underscores the project's market relevance. This partnership ensures a ready market for the rare earth concentrate, reducing offtake risk and validating the project's economic viability.
At the Skaergaard project in southeast Greenland, Greenland Mines reported that its July 2026 S-K 1300 Technical Report Summary showed a 36% increase in Indicated palladium-equivalent (PdEq) grade and a 31% increase in contained Indicated PdEq ounces compared to the 2022 estimate. This upgrade reflects the project's growing significance as a source of palladium, gold, and platinum—metals critical for automotive catalysts, electronics, and jewelry. The company is conducting a comprehensive 2026 field program, including drilling, bulk sampling, geotechnical work, environmental baseline studies, and surveys. Bulk material will be sent to GTK Mintec in Finland for metallurgical and processing flowsheet testing, a crucial step toward defining a viable extraction process.
Looking ahead, Greenland Mines outlined its remaining milestones for 2026: advancing Sarfartoq toward targeted infill drilling and a Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS), moving Skaergaard toward an Initial Assessment that evaluates a mining scenario, and developing its broader North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor strategy. The corridor aims to link Greenland’s mineral resources with allied downstream jurisdictions and industrial infrastructure, enhancing supply chain security for Western markets.
These developments come at a time when global demand for rare earth elements and platinum group metals is surging, driven by the transition to clean energy and heightened geopolitical tensions around mineral supply chains. By securing projects like Sarfartoq and Skaergaard, Greenland Mines is positioning itself as a reliable supplier in the Western Hemisphere, reducing dependence on dominant producers like China.
