As the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring regions confront the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak ever recorded, GeoVax Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: GOVX) is drawing attention to its MVA-based vaccine platform and hemorrhagic fever vaccine candidates that could potentially aid in the crisis. The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo virus (BDBV), has already resulted in more than 4,300 cases and 2,000 deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), and is on a trajectory that could surpass the death toll of the 2014-2016 West Africa Ebola epidemic. GeoVax's lead infectious disease priority remains GEO-MVA, its MVA-based vaccine for mpox and smallpox, which is advancing toward a pivotal clinical program. The company is already building relationships with healthcare and research organizations in Africa, partly for the GEO-MVA trials, but these connections also provide a channel to explore collaborative efforts against Ebola. "Our relationships in the region are being developed first and foremost to advance GEO-MVA, but many of the organizations with whom we are engaging are simultaneously confronting this Ebola outbreak," Dodd commented. "Given our experience, we believe it is appropriate to ask how we might help."

The broader MVA portfolio offers strategic optionality beyond GEO-MVA. GeoVax is open to discussing collaborations, licensing arrangements, and public-private partnerships that could bring external resources to further evaluate and develop these candidates without diverting primary resources from its lead program.
