FleetCollect, a compliance platform for trucking carriers, has added automatic SMS reminders that alert drivers when documents in their Driver Qualification Files (DQFs) are approaching expiration. The feature addresses a common compliance pitfall: expired medical cards, lapsed MVR reviews, or outdated CDL copies that surface only during a DOT audit.
Every motor carrier must maintain a DQF for each driver under FMCSA regulation 49 CFR §391.51, which requires 18 documents spanning pre-employment records, annual reviews, and ongoing testing. According to FleetCollect, DOT auditors frequently inspect DQFs first and often find them incomplete. The new text reminders aim to prevent documents from going stale by notifying drivers at 30, 14, 7, and 1 day before expiration, and again if the document lapses. Each text includes a secure link for drivers to upload renewals directly from their phones, with an opt-out option via "Reply STOP." Texting runs only on carrier-attested driver consent and is included automatically on every plan.
