Fifth International Healthcare Week to Showcase Hong Kong as MedTech and Investment Hub

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will host the fifth edition of International Healthcare Week from May 11 to 31, 2026, positioning Hong Kong as a premier destination for medical technology and investment. The event features two flagship gatherings: the sixth Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the 17th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair). These events provide a comprehensive business platform covering the entire medical and healthcare industry chain, including technology R&D, investment matching, equipment manufacturing, and medical services.

Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC, emphasized the strategic importance of the events, noting that Hong Kong's strengths as an international financial center and its unique bridging role between Mainland China and the world make it an ideal platform for healthcare innovation. The events align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, focusing on high-growth areas such as biopharmaceuticals, AI-empowered healthcare, the silver economy, and modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.

The ASGH, themed "Fuelling Healthcare Breakthroughs," will take place on May 11-12 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The summit will feature prominent speakers, including 2013 Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry, Professor Michael Levitt, who will discuss the transformative impact of technology on healthcare. Plenary sessions will cover pandemic preparedness and cross-sector collaboration to accelerate commercialization of research outcomes. Thematic sessions will address AI in healthcare, the silver economy, and the National 15th Five-Year Plan's emphasis on traditional Chinese medicine innovation.

The Medical Fair, running from May 11-13, will gather some 300 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions, showcasing the latest in MedTech, GeronTech, and preventive healthcare. Highlights include a smart health wearable watch integrating Chinese and Western medicine, an augmented reality surgical platform for orthopedics, and a world-first smart knee brace with AI and wearable technology. The fair will also host over 50 themed forums and seminars, including sessions on AI in mental health and gerontechnology.

Both events will adopt an "EXHIBITION+" hybrid model, with the physical fair complemented by the Click2Match smart business matching platform from May 4 to 20. The International Healthcare Week as a whole covers 17 healthcare-related conferences and networking activities, reinforcing Hong Kong's development as a regional medical innovation hub.
