For 25 years, ElParacaidista.com has served as a vital resource for Hispanic immigrants in the United States, offering guidance on everything from immigration procedures to starting a business. Founded in 2001 as an eight-page mini-newspaper in Miami, the publication quickly earned a "Best of Miami 2002" award from the Miami New Times and evolved into a comprehensive online guide. In 2012, it transitioned to a fully digital format, and now, to mark its 25th anniversary, the platform is launching a new website developed in partnership with ECP Communications Corp and Blank.
"Celebrating this 25th anniversary is a tremendous achievement, and we are happy to offer—with even greater strength—this true compass for the Latino immigrant," said Aira Guevara, editor and founder. Guevara, a Venezuelan-American journalist, drew from her own experience as an immigrant to create a guide that helps newcomers and established residents alike navigate the complexities of American life. "The drastic changes in immigration policies we've witnessed give us greater purpose and momentum," she added.
The new digital platform aims to improve user experience and expand the organization's reach. Jorge Gandara, CTO of Blank, noted, "Under the leadership of Elizabeth Cotto-Poueriet, CEO of ECP Communications Corp, we developed a modern, functional website focused on user experience." Cotto-Poueriet emphasized that digital transformation is about connecting people with services, and this project strengthens the social mission of El Paracaidista.
Over the years, the guide has addressed a wide range of topics, including health care without insurance, obtaining business licenses, understanding credit reports, and verifying professional credentials. It has also offered Foreign Title Revalidation seminars for 16 years, helping professionals educated abroad practice in the U.S. The content is rigorously researched by a team of journalists committed to impartial information.
Guevara highlighted the importance of proactive information: "Gathering information in advance makes it possible to choose the best path, prepare, and protect oneself." The platform has served over 2.5 million users across the U.S., Latin America, and Europe, with more than 5 million page views. As the U.S. celebrates its 250th anniversary, Guevara concluded, "The vast majority do not come to take; they come to give—and to give a great deal—to enrich this great nation."
