The scholarship does not require a minimum GPA, instead focusing on authenticity, leadership potential, personal reflection, and dedication to service.
Applicants must submit an original essay of 500 to 800 words responding to a prompt that asks them to describe a personal challenge, health-related experience, or interaction with the healthcare system that strengthened their desire to become a physician, and how that experience will influence their commitment to delivering compassionate, accessible care to underserved communities. Essays generated by artificial intelligence or previously published are not eligible.
The scholarship draws inspiration from Dr. Youtsos' own journey, including her experience with a melanoma diagnosis during medical residency, which provided her with perspectives as both a physician and a patient. Those experiences reinforced her commitment to improving healthcare access and delivering patient-centered care, particularly in medically underserved communities.
One recipient will receive $1,000 to support educational expenses. The application deadline is February 15, 2027, and the recipient will be announced on March 15, 2027.
