Chisos Boot Company, an Austin-based family-owned bootmaker, is setting a new standard for handcrafted luxury in cowboy boots with the release of its Chisos Reserve: Anniversary Edition. At a time when many boot companies use glued soles, synthetic linings, and fiberboard heel counters, Chisos refuses to compromise on materials or construction. The company has built a loyal following by adhering to traditional methods, such as true Goodyear welt construction with a leather channel welt, vegetable-tanned leather outsoles and insoles, stacked leather heels, and conformed steel shanks for arch support.
Every pair of Chisos boots is lined with premium leather and secured with brass nails and lemonwood pegs, which expand and contract with the leather rather than pulling away. This design ensures that the boots can be resoled, not replaced. What truly sets Chisos apart is its proprietary comfort insole, featuring heritage leather atop two layers of semi-organic polymer cushioning with impact-dissipating gel pads at the heel and ball of the foot. This insole provides a broken-in feel from the first wear while enhancing structural integrity.
The Chisos Reserve: Anniversary Edition exemplifies the company's dedication to quality without compromise. Crafted in extremely limited batches from wild-harvested Texas alligator, each pair is mirror-cut from royal black alligator belly sourced from East Texas waters. No two pairs are identical. The collars feature a hand-tooled and hand-dyed relief of the Chisos Mountains, shaped by master craftsmen at the company's partner workshop in León, Guanajuato. Alligator pulls, heritage cowhide uppers, and a Texas-stamped heel complete the design. Underneath the exotic leather lies the same robust construction found in all Chisos boots: vegetable-tanned leather interior components, steel shank, hand-channeled welt, and the Chisos comfort insole.
Working with wild alligator requires exceptional skill, as the material is dense and unforgiving. Only a handful of master bootmakers can meet Chisos standards, limiting production to select release windows. “The Anniversary Edition is an embodiment of what it means to be a Texan,” says Roman, the company's owner. “It's an unabashed celebration of our great state.” Chisos boots are available at chisos.com and at the company's Austin flagship retail store.
