CENTRESTAGE ELITES Opens with KIT WAN STUDIOS’ Sci-Fi Extravaganza, Showcasing Over 30 New Looks

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) opened the annual CENTRESTAGE fashion event with a spectacular showcase by KIT WAN STUDIOS, a multidisciplinary design studio led by Hong Kong-born creative director Kit Wan. The event, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from 2 to 5 September 2026, featured over 30 brand-new looks that blended futuristic and sci-fi aesthetics against the backdrop of Victoria Harbour.

This year's CENTRESTAGE ELITES, the opening gala, highlighted KIT WAN STUDIOS' work, which has previously designed stage costumes for international events such as the Grammy Awards and Eurovision. The studio has also collaborated with prominent Hong Kong artists including Miriam Yeung, Hins Cheung, MC Cheung, and Panther Chan. The show marked a significant moment for Hong Kong fashion, demonstrating its capacity to merge artistic creativity with commercial appeal.

Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the HKSAR Government, attended as the Guest of Honour, alongside celebrities, artists, and fashion industry leaders. The event also included an after-party with performances by electronic musician hirsk and model-musician Kim Peers. A dedicated exhibition at the venue displayed seven iconic stage costumes from KIT WAN STUDIOS, highlighting the studio's deep connections with Hong Kong's music scene.

The opening of CENTRESTAGE underscores the importance of fashion as a cultural and economic driver. The fair, which is free to the public, runs for four days and features over 40 events, including more than 30 runway shows and parades. Kit Wan will also participate in a dialogue with Dan Hastings, Editor of The Business of Fashion, on Friday, 4 September, to discuss creative inspiration and international expansion.

The event is a flagship programme of the third edition of Hong Kong Fashion Fest, which runs from 1 to 14 September 2026. The festival aims to position Hong Kong as Asia's fashion capital and a hub for creative industries, supported by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA). The government's backing reflects a strategic focus on nurturing talent and promoting cross-sectoral collaboration, which are essential for the growth of the local fashion ecosystem.

The global fashion industry is witnessing a shift towards Asia, and Hong Kong is positioning itself at the forefront. By hosting events like CENTRESTAGE, the city not only showcases local design talent but also attracts international buyers, media, and investors. The inclusion of KIT WAN STUDIOS, a brand that has gained international recognition, signals Hong Kong's ability to compete on a global stage.

Attendees can explore the latest collections, network with industry professionals, and gain insights into emerging trends. The event also provides a platform for emerging designers to gain exposure. As Hong Kong continues to evolve as a cultural and creative hub, events like CENTRESTAGE are critical in fostering innovation and economic growth.

For those unable to attend in person, the organisers have arranged livestreams of the shows on various platforms. More information about the event and the full programme can be found on the CENTRESTAGE website.
