Boerne, Texas, has been named one of 25 finalists in Hallmark Channel's 2026 Merriest Christmas Town contest, making it the only community in Texas to receive this honor this year. The announcement, made by the city and Visit Boerne, underscores the town's reputation as a premier holiday destination in the Texas Hill Country.
The contest, which invites public voting through September 4, allows participants to cast one vote per day for Boerne. The recognition is a testament to the town's unique blend of small-town charm, community spirit, and festive events that transform its historic Hill Country Mile into a scene reminiscent of a Christmas movie during the holiday season.
Mayor Frank Ritchie highlighted the community's role in earning this distinction: "At the center of the celebration are the people who are part of our wonderful community. That sense of community is what has helped Boerne build a reputation as a Texas Hill Country destination throughout the holiday season."
One of Boerne's signature holiday traditions is Dickens on Main, which during Thanksgiving weekend brings the Hill Country Mile to life with live entertainment, holiday activities, and Victorian-inspired characters and decorations. This event, along with Weihnachts Weekend, the annual nighttime Weihnachts Parade, and Kinder Fest, creates a festive atmosphere that continues throughout December with holiday markets and shopping events.
Visit Boerne Marketing Specialist Tori Bellos emphasized the collaborative effort behind the town's holiday appeal: "What makes Christmas in Boerne so special is that it's truly a community effort. Our role is to help visitors discover everything that makes Boerne unique while making sure our local businesses have the information and resources they need to welcome them."
The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kim Blohm echoed this sentiment, noting that the community's Christmas celebration is deeply rooted in local businesses, volunteers, and residents who work together to create a personal, small-town experience. "Our small business owners welcome visitors, neighbors share longtime traditions, and families gather along the Hill Country Mile to create the kind of personal, small-town Christmas experience that has become synonymous with Boerne," she said.
