Angkor Resources Corp. (TSXV: ANK, OTCQB: ANKOF) has announced the completion of the initial drilling phase at its Andong Bor copper-gold target in Cambodia, with promising results that underscore the project's potential. The company planned a total of 2,800 meters of diamond drilling, of which 1,099 meters were completed in mid-July on the Thmei North target, a one-square-kilometer copper anomaly. The program was strategically staged around the Cambodian seasons, with the remaining 1,700 meters scheduled for early 2027 once fields are dry and crops harvested.
Dennis Ouellette, VP Exploration, commented: “Two of the three holes drilled this year encountered good porphyry and skarn mineralization over the 400 meters each was drilled. Portions of skarn were especially well mineralized. The third hole contained a run of over 200 meters with continuous pyrite mineralization up to 20%.” These findings are significant as they confirm the presence of mineralization in the target area, validating the company's exploration model.
The drill program at Thmei North was designed to intersect mineralized beds by drilling to the east, based on geological data from 2025 that showed the main controlling structures strike north-northwest and dip steeply west. In this modified copper porphyry model, the best mineralization occurs within potassic-altered sediments adjacent to feldspar porphyry diorite dikes, which vary in width from a few meters to tens of meters. By drilling eastward, the company aims to maximize interception of mineralized sedimentary rock as it drills through alternating lithologies.
The core from the completed 1,099 meters is currently being logged, cut, sampled, and sent for assays. The second phase of drilling, focusing on Thmei North and initial activity on Thmei South, will continue in 2027. This phased approach not only respects the agricultural calendar but also allows for systematic evaluation of the target.
The Andong Bor license covers 100.28 square kilometers and straddles Oddar Meanchey and Banteay Meanchey provinces. The company's exploration efforts are part of its broader strategy to advance copper and gold prospects across Cambodia. Angkor Resources holds two mineral exploration licenses in the country and is also developing an onshore oil and gas license in Block VIII, where it has identified multiple drill targets.
The results from this initial drilling are important as they provide early indications of the project's economic potential. The presence of well-mineralized skarn and continuous pyrite mineralization over significant intervals suggests a robust hydrothermal system, which could translate into a substantial resource. The company's systematic approach, including careful planning around seasonal constraints, demonstrates a commitment to responsible and efficient exploration.
As the company moves forward with the second phase, the data from the current drilling will guide further exploration and potentially lead to a resource estimate. The success of this program could also have broader implications for the region, as it may attract additional investment and highlight Cambodia's mineral potential.
