Actor David Henrie has installed a custom motorized pergola at his Idaho property, designed and manufactured by Azenco Outdoor, reflecting a broader shift in residential design toward year-round outdoor living. The installation underscores how outdoor spaces are evolving from seasonal amenities into integral extensions of the home, engineered to withstand varying weather conditions.
Set in a region known for significant seasonal temperature changes, heavy snow loads, and unpredictable weather, the pergola features a motorized louvered roof system that allows precise control over sunlight, airflow, and protection. This adaptability enables the space to transition between open-air and covered configurations as needed. Henrie noted, "It's quickly become our family's favorite spot to unwind, eat, and enjoy the view. It really changed how we use our outdoor space day to day."
The project highlights a wider transformation in residential design, where outdoor environments are no longer treated as secondary or occasional-use areas. Homeowners increasingly seek solutions that adapt to shifting weather while preserving comfort and aesthetics throughout the year. Azenco Outdoor stated, "Outdoor environments today are expected to deliver comfort, adaptability, and long-term reliability. They are no longer secondary spaces, but an integral part of how people use and experience their homes."
Engineered aluminum systems like those produced by Azenco Outdoor are central to this shift, offering structural stability, minimal maintenance, and consistent performance across climates. These qualities are relevant in both residential and commercial applications, particularly in hospitality, where year-round outdoor usability impacts guest satisfaction and operational efficiency. The Henrie project also demonstrates that demand for climate-responsive outdoor structures extends beyond traditionally warm-weather regions.
