The 2026 (27th) Hainan Island Carnival is set to take place from July 18 to August 18, transforming China's tropical island into a month-long celebration. Under the theme "Vibrant Free Trade Port, Charming Hainan Island," the event features more than 50 distinctive events across the island, encompassing ocean activities, rainforest exploration, cultural heritage, cuisine, and nighttime light shows.
This year's carnival introduces a pioneering concept of "the whole island as a carnival," moving beyond traditional scenic spots to integrate the entire island into the festivities. Four thematic segments debut with innovative offerings: water sports, joyful performances, gourmet flavors, and trendy shopping. Highlights will unfold across Hainan's diverse regions. In Sanya and Lingshui, beach music festivals and island art exhibitions create a romantic seaside atmosphere. Wanning and Qionghai focus on trendy outdoor pursuits such as surfing and island cycling. The central rainforest region offers wellness activities like rainforest trekking and immersive Li and Miao cultural experiences. In Danzhou's Haihua Island on the western coast, the carnival concludes with a mass chorus carnival.
A grand culinary carnival accompanies the events, with coastal specialty markets, Southeast Asian–style food streets, and rainforest-themed dining experiences across cities and counties.
