New Braunfels Unveils Roadway Projects and Rabies Clinic to Boost Community Safety

New Braunfels is set to undergo significant infrastructure enhancements with the announcement of two major roadway improvement projects. The city will host an open-house style public meeting to discuss the projects on South Kowald Lane and Conrads Lane, both funded through the 2023 Bond program, according to New Braunfels News.

The public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 22, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the NBU Service Center, located at 355 FM 306. Residents are encouraged to attend to review preliminary project information, ask questions, and provide feedback to city staff.

South Kowald Lane Improvement Project

This $10.7 million project will expand the current two-lane roadway from the I-35 Frontage Road to FM 1101. The expansion includes a center turn lane, driving lanes, shoulders, sidewalks on both sides, and a new traffic signal at FM 1101. Additional enhancements will improve drainage and pedestrian facilities. Construction is expected to commence in July 2028 and conclude by November 2029.

Conrads Lane Improvement Project

Stretching from FM 1102 to Goodwin Lane, the Conrads Lane project is valued at $11.8 million. It will feature added turn lanes at major intersections, an increased intersection radius at Goodwin Lane, driving lanes, a median, and a turning lane. The project also includes a shared-use path and upgraded drainage and pedestrian facilities. Construction is slated to begin in April 2028 and finish by July 2029.

Free Drive-Through Rabies Vaccination Clinic

In a bid to enhance public health, New Braunfels is partnering with Best Friends Animal Society to host a free drive-through rabies vaccination clinic. Scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., the clinic will take place in the parking lot of New Braunfels City Hall at 550 Landa Street, as reported by New Braunfels News.

Rabies, a deadly viral disease affecting the nervous system of mammals, can be prevented through vaccination. The clinic will provide vaccines to the first 300 pets on a first-come, first-served basis. Only dogs and cats are eligible, and each resident may bring up to four pets. Proof of residency, such as a state-issued ID and a current utility bill, is required.

Local health officials advise residents to exercise caution around stray or unfamiliar animals and to ensure pets are up-to-date on rabies vaccinations. For more information, contact the City of New Braunfels Animal Welfare & Rescue through the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area at 830-608-2183.
