New Braunfels is calling on its residents to engage more actively in local governance as applications are now open for various city boards and commissions. According to a release by the City of New Braunfels, applications for the fall appointment cycle are being accepted until September 30, 2026. These appointments, which will commence on December 1, include positions on the Animal Services Advisory Board, Building Standards Commission, Cemetery Committee, Civil Service Commission, Community Development Advisory Committee, and the Landa Park Golf Course Advisory, among others.
In another effort to foster community involvement, District 5 City Councilmember Mary Ann Labowski will host a district forum on August 12, 2026. The event, as reported by New Braunfels News, will take place at the Main Branch of the New Braunfels Public Library from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The forum aims to provide residents with updates on projects, initiatives, and services affecting District 5 and the broader city. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session, allowing them to voice concerns and discuss issues directly with city staff.
Meanwhile, in Helotes, public hearings are scheduled to discuss proposed amendments to the city’s zoning ordinance. According to Public Notices, the hearings will address a request to amend Chapter 98 of the Municipal Code of Ordinances, specifically Article XI on Telecommunication Facilities. The amendment seeks to define and authorize the placement of telecommunication facilities within residential districts through a City Council Use Permit. The current ordinance prohibits such placements, but the proposed changes aim to establish a review process that allows these facilities to be considered on a case-by-case basis, ensuring reliable utility and communication services while maintaining oversight by the City Council. The hearings will be held on August 25, 2026, at the City Hall Council Chambers in Helotes.
These initiatives underscore the importance of public participation in shaping local policies and services, reflecting a broader trend towards increased civic engagement in the New Braunfels area.
